Need help! I have a Windows 2000 server which is (unfortunatly) my primary
domain controller as well as a file and print server. This system has had
dmadmin.exe running constantly for the last week or two using about 50% of
the processor (dual 1.2GHZ Intel). I have searched high and low on this
process and the only info I can find states that it is the disk management
process and that you should never kill it. No partition or disk changes have
taken place on this system, there are no entries in the system log about
failed or failing hardware, no entries in the application log on dmadmin.exe.
When I attempt to go to the disk management tool it hangs with a message at
the bottom stating that it is "connecting to Logical Disk Manager Service".
I feel I have waited plenty long for any disk services to be completed, but
not sure if I should kill this process or why it would be running as it is.
Since this is the logical disk manager I am worried about rebooting without
some insight into what is going on. The system is set up with the OS in a
RAID 1, 1 partition; and data RAID 5 in 2 partitions.
I have no problem stopping or starting other services which I feel are
ancillary just as a test. Mac users who make use of file services on this
system have complained that their graphic files are constantly showing new
modified date/time stamps.(informational dialog box appears on file open in
their software, file still opens)
