Windows XP Ide controller changes from DMA Mode to PIO
Mode, where can I get the hotfix or any other resolution.

Firstly, it is (more that likely) NOT a Windows XP IDE controller. The
controller is physically part of the motherboard and the M/B manufacturer
supplies drivers for their controller. Many of these controllers are
designed to "step down" in performance if read/write errors are detected.
Some of them will "lock" you in PIO mode, some reset automatically upon a
reboot.

For the ones that lock, use devise manager to uninstall the IDE/Atapi
controller. Reboot! The controller will be re-detected and installed. Also,
go to the web site of the manufacturer of your M/B for updated M/B drivers!

NOTE: In many cases this is a sign of impending hard drive trouble.
