my cpu is occasionally taken over by dllhost.exe and the
system slows way down. what does this program do, and why
all of sudden is it acting up? Is there a virus or worm
that has corrupted it? how do I fix it?

Update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan.

dllhost.exe is not a virus. dllhost32.exe is. dllhost.exe
is a DCOM surrogate. Have fun.

Its presence may indeed be caused by a Trojan. See "Technical Details"
section of
http://securityresponse.symantec.com...chia.worm.html.

Hi!Scott!
The DCOM DLL Host process supports DLL based COM objects and is used by
many Windows programs.
But I shall suggest you to scan your system with latest virus
definitioned antivirus.
