divide by zero in module user.exe

I transferred old program on unit using Widows 98 to new computer using
Windows XP pro. On trying to open program on new computer I am greeted with
"divide byzero in module user.exe"

What can I do to open program

Please explain the term "transferred old program" to Windows XP Pro. By
what means was this function performed?
