When I attempt to use a specific distribution list, ie: distribution listA,
the contacts that show up are from distribution listB. Any suggestions why
this is happening?

No. There is no information here.
Outlook version, information store, how each list was created, how you are
selecting the recipient would seem a minimum for you to post.
