How come when a contacts' details are updated in outlook, it isn't
automatically updated in a distribution list within outlook. If this is not
possible, is there another method of having an email distribution list synced
with outlook?

You have to click the Update now button in the DL.

We recommend using categories to create a dynamic DL so that changes are
always reflected.
