With Outlook Express I had my Contacts list displayed on the left side of the
screen below the folders list. I have not been able to figure out how to do
this with Windows Mail. Can anyone help? I don't know why MS decided to
discontinue OE. It wasn't broke, why did they think they needed to fix it?
I can't find anything better in Windows Mail.

They did away with the contacts pane. Go to Tools | Windows Contacts to
open its own window.

OE was just renamed to Windows Mail. Its the same program with some
modifications, such as the message store.

see

I just purchased a new computer with Windows Vista. Where do I go find my
settings for incoming and outgoing servers? I have Comcast Broadband for my
ISP. Do I need to contact them? My Comcast mail box works fine but I
always liked Outlook Express better. Any help would be appreciated. Thank
you.

You need to contact Comcast and ask them for the settings. Their website
should have some information. You'll need the username and passwords for
the POP3 and SMTP servers and check with them to see what port to use for
the SMTP server. Then you can just set it up using Tools | Accounts | Add |
Mail.

Make sure if you have antivirus software you turn off email scanning. Its
not needed and can mess things up. See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 The
same applies for WinMail.

If you still have the computer with Outlook Express, open OE and go to Tools
| Accounts. Export the accounts as *.iaf files. Windows Mail can import
these accounts.

I don't know if this is what you are asking, but I use the last name, first
name (Chochran, Steve) display option (Full Name field on the Name and Email
tab). You have to use this for each contact, but when I open Contacts or
select the To/CC/BCC field, the contacts are in last name sequence.

Cheers, Dave

I also have not been able to view or choose my contacts in their respective
folders. It is VERY inconvenient to have to go thru ALL contacts to pick out
a few. This is a disastrous mistake by Microsoft. If it is not fixed
quickly I will have to go to another mail program.
