When a Word document is open, the top of the page only shows its basic name
but not the extension type, eg .dox

How can I force Word to display the full file name there?

Thanks

Word 2003 follows the setting in Windows Explorer (also called Computer or My
Computer, depending on the Windows version) in Tools > Folder Options > View,
for "Hide extensions for known file types". Turn off that option.

Word 2007 ignores the setting and always shows the extension.
