ANy other computers you can connect the monitor to? Does the problem still
occur when you reboot? Check your device manager for yellow marks. You could
also try doing a windows update to see if any new drivers match your
computer...

Right click on My Computer, left click manage. In the tree menu click on
Device Manager. If you have any yellow question marks, thats XP trying to
tell you that it cant find a driver for a device. How long have you had the
monitor? It could be going bad.

1) Make sure the VGA cable is screwed tightly to the video output port on
your graphics card or chip.
2) If it is, then try the monitor on a system with a known working
graphics card or chip.
3) If the monitor looks fine on the other system, then you know the card
needs to be replaced (for a graphics chip - in other words graphics directly
on the motherboard - turn off the on-board in the BIOS - RTFM to learn how
to do this - and install a proper graphics card).
4) If it doesn't, and you know with 100% certainty that the card/chip in
the other system is in PWO, then you need to replace the monitor.

Rather it died under warranty, than the day after the warranty expires!
