I'm running Windows XP Home. A couple of weeks ago, my display settings
changed to 800X600 with 8-bit color. My graphics driver was relaced by one
that I cannot even get a description of and my Dell plug and play monitor was
replaced by "Default Monitor". In my reading on the Internet, I've seen
suggestions that all this occurred as a result of an automatic Microsoft
update. Also, when I try to troubleshoot, I am not allowed to change
settings - grayed out. When I try to install an updated Intel Graphics
Driver the installation process stops right after the wizard starts and gives
me a message that an internal error has occurred and that access is denied.
How do I get my machine back? Thanks.

Do a System Restore to a date before the update screwed up your machine. You
can also disable Automatic Updates.
