I've lost access to the Display applet in Control Panel (Win XP SP2). The
icon is there, but w/ double-click, just twitches and no response. All other
icons in Control Panel respond properly. I can't think of any changes to my
system prior to this glitch showing up, so I'm stymied, and I'd treally like
to get back into the Display area. System Restore long gone - ineffective; no
help from scannow... any suggestions?
Thanks

Another way to get Display: right-click on empty Desktop>Properties.

Unexplained computer behaviour may be caused by deceptive software
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827315

Go through these Cleaning steps:
1... First, try to clean up your caches, Internet files and delete cookies
by doing this:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Tabs:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all non
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.
How to manage Add-Ons:

Or right click on an Empty Area in the Desktop and slect properties to get
to the Display Properties window.

Did you update your Graphic card driver lately, if you didn't try to get the
latest driver for it.
