Have attached a flat panel to my lap top and have set up
via display properties>settings>'extend my windows desktop
onto this monitor'

screen saver appears on flat panel and I can move icons
and tool bar over to it. When, however, I open icons the
windows will only open on the lap top screen and not the
intended flat panel.

Any suggestions?

Check the manufacturer's website for the latest drivers for your graphics
card. If that doesn't resolve it, go to the following website, scroll the
list on the left for Hardware, select it and try your question there:
