My resolution is to low. When I go to the Display
settings and click advance the properties button is not
active. The monitor says default monitor. I tried
downloading a monitor driver off microsoft website but I
dont think it loaded in. I have a Dell 1800 flat panel.
What can I do.

Might try booting in to safe mode, reboot hit F8 key, next
screen select safe mode, then go to display and try to
change resolution or download driver. Might even be able
to get support from dell since it's one of their monitors.

Hope this helps.

Call DELL to get the correct driver installed. I had to
rebuild my XP system from scratch and had all sorts of
problems with the drivers. They were not on the system
disk that Dell sent, but on another resource disk. Once
the driver was properly installed, all was well.

If you downloaded it - did you execute it. Start, run and
then run it.

after that you may have to reboot but iw will show the
correct resolutions for that screen then.

Also you may have pulled off and incorrect driver for your
screen.
