To clarify, I do not want to edit math equations using the Equation Editor.

I want to see math equations. Currently, I see symbols, not addition or
subtraction signs or the like.

There are three ways to insert equations in Word 2007
1. Use the new Insert > Equation tool > New Equation
2. Use the old Equation editor - Insert Object > Microsoft Equation 3.0 (It
may not be installed by default)
3. Use an EQ field.
Take your pick.

Were these equations created on a different computer? Are you sure you
have the font(s) installed that were used on the other computer? If
the Symbol font is involved, there can be problems in correspondences.
If you happen not to have any fonts with the "Mathematical Characters"
range, you wouldn't see them.
