Have a Compaq 6710b laptop running Vista with extended display when laptop is
docked. The extended display goes black randomly. The LED is still on, there
is no power issue. I have already set display options in the power settings
tabs.

It's very likely that the connector in the dock is bad. I would try it all
without the dock.
