How to display dynamic content in excel?

Hi,

I try to find out, in which format data has to be, which I import via
web query into excel. There are a lot of examples for stockquotes. But
I couldn´t figure out what kind of data the servlets, web services
etc. has to send back, that excel can present it in a proper way
without VBA.
Can anybody give me a hint. like a specification of the html dialect?
