recently i am seeing strange display problems. when xp boots up, there are
these regularly spaced groups of small horizontal blue-dashed lines. when the
desktop appears, the classic background is displayed normally, but several
desktop icons are missing and replaced by dashed lines. the mouse pointer has
a square of these dashed lines surrounding it, and in some applications it
disappears entirely. icons in several applications are also missing. however,
no problems with running the applications themselves. i have confirmed all
updates installed, antivirus and adware run with no problems reported. i have
ruled out a monitor problem and have installed latest driver for the video
card. not sure what else i can do. system is xp pro; pc is an amd sempron
3400, 1g ram.
