disk are not recognized in cd or floppy drives

My computer does not recognize a disk when it is in the cd
rom, cdwriter or floppy drives. I need a power point
presentation copied to a cd but I'm unable to do so
because I keep getting errors stating the there is no disk
in the drive(s). Does any one know why that could be?
