disk drive format prompt on a disk drive showing a healthy status

I have a secondary drive installed NTFS FILE SYSTEM ...with pictures and
images a few backup files a few games and the drive or the files are only
viewable thru a appliaction not from in windows explorer accessing top level
folders a format drive prompt pops up xpprosp2 with firewall and no virus....

anybody heard of a error like this ...........its a stable repeatable
error?????

please help

BTW the drive is a single NTFS partition 232GB drive
