disk cleanup

I am using XP / SP3.

After I run Disk Cleanup (several times) there remain many entries in my
tempoarary internet file even though the box is check to clear the file. I
understand that some should remain but there are more than 50 that should be
deleted. Why and how can I make disk clean up more effective?
