When I run Disk Cleanup it starts "Compressing Old Files", increments the
progress bar for a few minutes, and then appears to 'hang'. I.e. the
progress bar stops moving.

I have tried this under Safe Mode as well, with the same results.

Any idea what causes this and how to fix it?

Thanks! 5920 worked. Although, as I understand it, this just turns off old
file compression. Correct?
