Hi,
It removing the battery doesn't work, and before you try anything
drastic, go to another system and download Spinrite from this site:
http://www.grc.com/intro.htm
Make a boot cd or floppy and follow the instructions. You can run it at
level 2 first--that might be enough to fix the hard drive.
