If your computer is a laptop try this;
Remove the battery, and the power cord.
Wait 5 min.
Plug the power cord in and try starting your laptop with the battery
out.

Hi,

It removing the battery doesn't work, and before you try anything
drastic, go to another system and download Spinrite from this site:

http://www.grc.com/intro.htm

Make a boot cd or floppy and follow the instructions. You can run it at
level 2 first--that might be enough to fix the hard drive.

Good luck!

Try the total power off trick anyway, but leave it unplugged for at
least 10 minutes.

Good luck
