I want to achieve complete freedom from links to any wannabe MS
services like MSN or Live search etc etc.

These seem to be very persistent and buried deep, for example handling
URL errors in IE.

Is there a quick and easy way to be rid of all of these connections to
services I don't want and certainly don't want to appear to be using /
supporting ?

Once rid, are they going to re-appear with Automatic Upgrades ?

Phil

You can start by using group policies in order to prevent the messenger
from loading, control IE etc.

Today's PC users have to get used to the fact that you are always
connected to the internet, and things are downloaded/updated all the
time. There is NO way around it these days.

Being connected to the Internet should not result in waking up to
discover a Windows Live! toolbar, default search engine and Home page.

My question is how to remove all the MSN-isms from XP totally, ie get
rid of all the things it comes pre-contaminated with. Having done
that, how do I avoid or remove subsequent re-infections ?

Disable auto-update and only install the updates you want and/or need.
