Discussion webs not working right after host reset permissions on server

About two weeks ago, a new employee at my hosting company did a security
check and lock down on their IIS/5.0 server, and after that, most of my
FrontPage 2002 functions quit. Also all FrontPage counters stopped working
and I lost FP access to all sites ( FP2000 extensions )

After two weeks of working on this, I am only partially up. I have access to
all sites via another PC running FP 2000, but my main PC with FP 2002 still
cannot connect to the sites ( I get "The folder http://www.domain.xxx/ is no
longer available. I guess that should be another topic...

Also all sites with a discussion web have started numbering messages from
message 00000001 and all new messages append them to the old message.. I.E.
the first new message after the server problem is message number 00000001
and contain both the new message and the original part of the message
00000001. The next new message is number 00000002 and has both the new
message and the old part of the 00000002 message.

Examples of this can be seen on the message boards for www.barrystrucker.com
and www.nothingsacredband.com

Is there a way to fix this and get the message numbers corrected?

Any help much appreciated!

Same thing happened to me on Sept 11. I didn't discover it until the 16th
and have been trying to fix it ever since. It's as if the server was reset
to 000001 and new post are included it the original post with that number.
Weird. I had my discussion running without problems for 4 years and all of a
sudden this problem. Any help is appreciated.

Tom,

I went through the articles you linked to, and recalculated the site (
www.nothingsacredband.com ) several times, but it did not help the problem.
I also made a copy of the tocproto.htm file and edited that, but FP will not
let me rename to original so I can replace it with the copy to see if that
would help. I also edited the messages 00000001 and 00000002 that I had
added to them with the error, and deleted all the added text leaving only
the original text, and the recalculated again, but still no help...

Other suggestions... anyone...?

Unfortunately if the host for some reason has removed / reinstalled the FP SE, or a DW gets too large, the "counter" gets reset and
there is no way to restore it

That's why it helps to publish the DW to another subweb periodically, so if you run into [problems you can publish the last known
good one back to you active DW (losing the new posts)
