I have a discussion web setup within my website as a subweb. I'm looking for
a way to have a new post indicator on my main page showing if a new post has
been added to the discussion.

Thanks in advance

Would requires forum written is in a server-side scripting language such as ASP, ASP.net, PHP, etc.
depending on what script and database is supported by your web host.
