Hi

I cannot use subwebs with my Host "Newsguy.com" , but they told me I
could use a PHP/SQL program like Phorum. I've uploaded all source
files to a "Forum" folder on my site. But when I go to setup both
"Invision" and "Phorum" (PHP/SQL) discussion boards they give me
permission errors.

But at the same time when I asked my host about CHMOD their reply
was :

"For the CHMOD and CHOWN commands, these are generally used for
setting permissions for accessing a site's content, and I'm not sure
you'd have the direct ability to handle this through the member
websites"

To quote the Phorum install:

forums.php is [BAD]
Fix: change permissions to 777 or 666
settings dir is [BAD]
Fix: change permissions to 777 or 666

Warning: fopen(./admin/settings/forums.php) [function.fopen]: failed
to create stream: Permission denied in
/var/ftp/home/luckluck/public_html/forum/admin/functions.php on line
137 Could not open file ./admin/settings/forums.php. Please check the
file permissions

To quote the Invision install:

error "conf_global.php" does not have suitable permissions, CHMOD
"conf_global.php" to 0777 via your FTP client.

Can I setup a discussion board with this host? Does my host know what
he is talking about?

Thanks for all your help.

You may be using FrontPage, but you certainly aren't using it for any of
this. You're using a PHP program and WS_FTP for all of this. I'm not even
sure why you're posting this here. You should be talking with your host
about these issues.
