Thanks, Curt, for the response. First time the connection disappeared I
rebooted the modem but that had no effect. Didn't leave it off for a couple
of minutes, but the modem, an all-in-one modem and router, is used by others
in the house and is never turned off, not even at night. So I surmise the
problem is somewhere else.
Perhaps I should clarify what I mean by "connection disappeared". The
occurrence is in my computer; viz., Control Panel/Systems/Network Connections
shows no LAN icon. And apparently the Ethernet Card is O.K.
