Disappearing icons on Windows Xp

I turned on my computer one day and all but 4 icons were gone off my desk
top. I did not use the clean up feature either. The only thing that happened
was the other user on the computer deleted all but a few of her icons on her
account. This should not have effected mine should it , we are both
administrators. Does any one know what happened so I can avoid this from
happening again.
