Disappearing Drivers

My CDROM drivers keep disappearing. I was told that I could go to msconfig
and start up in diagnostic mode. This seemed to work once, but not anymore.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening and what I can do to fix it?

See if this applies:

CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error code 31, code 32, code 19, code 39, or code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP:
