My DVD-ROM has worked for over a year but suddenly has
disappeared from "my computer" device manager says "your
registry may be corrupted (code 19), but following the
troubleshooter tips hasn't helped. Any ideas?

check the power connection and the interface connection for starters. I
had that happen to my A drive, and it had merely come unplugged
