Disabling the Install Hardware Wizard at startup

Every time I start my PC, XP detects what it thinks is new
hardware -- although the hardware that it's detecting has
been on my computer years before XP was. It's not just my
printer -- it's the CD ROM drive and the IDE ports too.
There about 8 of these messages that appear on every
bootup. Is there a way to disable this very annoying
Automatic Hardware Detect feature?
