Disabling AVG

I have free AVG 8.0.138 (and have no complaints about it). But to run
another (unrelated) program I've been advised to disable it.
I can't see any way to do that - other than removing it completely and then
reinstalling.
Have I missed something?
Any advice warmly appreciated.

An outlook recovery program (my outlook.pst having exceeding the permitted
size - not that I knew there *was* a maximum size until too late ...). It's
not recovering my Tasks, and the program suppliers' first suggestion (in a
list of three) is <Disable your antivirus, it can block access to the
Outlook data for our program.>

OK - Yes, I have MS Outlook 2000. If it's merely slowing the process down
that needn't worry me so I'll skip item 1 of their list.
My AVG - perhaps because it's the freebie - doesn't have the exclusion
capability.
Thanks very much for your help.

here is a page on how to disable firewalls. This is a critically important
function especially in troubleshooting. I don't know why AVG is not on this
list. I have always wondered how to disable AVG AV and never have found an
answer to this either.
