Hi,

Suddenly, one of the workstations lost its ability to connect to the
network. No significant software or network change can be the cause.
The workstations, though physically different, are set up similarly
(same software, service packs, etc.) This machine has been up for 15
months without problems.

The network:

1 * Win2k Server SP-4 DC
15 * Win2k Pro SP-4 workstations
1 * 3Com switch

The DC serves DHCP and DNS. There is no WINS.

After some noodling around, I managed to fix my problem using
DisableDHCPMediaSense (KB239924).

As it is the same with two different NICs (SIS900 and D-Link DFE-530),
I guess the issue is not with the transport level connection.

I am very curious about what could cause something like this, if
anyone cares to toss their 2 cents in...

regards all
