I have seen two conflicting articles regarding the proper setting to make my
server NOT create 8.3 compliant names.
Can someone tell me the answer to the following questions with confidence...
Is the registry entry in for a Windows 2000 server
NTLM>System>CurrentControlSet>Control>filesystem> ?
Is it a reg_dword entry called "NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation" ?
Does this entry need to be set to 0 or 1 for NTFS to not create an 8.3
compliant name ?
I know this would seem to be self evident but as of 1-1-05 the software
developers at my company changed a network system so I now have 1.2 million
files with long file names in a single folder and several thousand of these
probably have the same first 8 digits. My backup times have doubled and Im
troubleshooting the possible reasons.
I'm just looking for confirmation.

Thanks.
