Surely there is some way to disable the display of trace by those who know
how to request trace.axd?

Let me guess. Did not set to local only? Or perhaps turn tracing off?

the whole web.config debaucle is slated to get better in .NET 4.0. Until
then, you have to babysit every deploy. ;-)
