Disable single-click rename, possible?

Title says it all. I just realized how much escape-pressing I'm doing just
getting out of that rename mode, which I think I never used once.

I hope this can be disabled, but I doubt it. Thanks!

Your problem may be that double-click is on, and when you hover and
left-click once, Windows thinks you want to Rename.

You can also turn off/on single-click and go back to using double-click, in
Tools | Options from Windows Explorer.

Try setting the click to single click ... then a single click will execute.
If you then want to rename, right-click and choose Rename.

By using TweakUI, you can increase/decrease the time that a single click is
determined by Windows to be an actual click.

Thanks for the reply. I should have said that I use double-clicks to start
stuff, and this is the way I prefer. And I really didn't properly explain what
was causing the rename. Let's me try to rectify this.

When a directory is selected in the left pane of Windows Explorer, if I
single-click on that directory Windows will assume I want to rename it, no
matter how much time passed since the initial selection and the second click.
This is the behavior I would want to disable. I would prefer Windows to never
rename on clicks but only when I select Rename from the context menu or press
F2.

I did quite a bit of searching and couldn't find any information about this, at
all. So I assume I'm just getting old.

Still, if you know of a way to do what I need, I'd owe you one!

The "fix" is to click on the Icon, not the name.

Took me a while to figure this out.

1. Tools | Options - set double-click (like you have)
2. Under View Tab ... check Display Simple Folder View

What is happening is this. Once you Select a folder in the left panel, and
it becomes highlighted, if you then click again (no matter how long in
between clicks), Windows Explorer assumes you want to Rename, since it was
already selected by you.

Using the Display Simple Folder View, sets a single click for the left panel
on folders even if selected, but leaves double click on everything in the
right panel.
