Whenever I open a document using an MS Application (Word,
PowerPoint) the message "requesting virus scan" shows up
on the lower left corner of the particular application (MS
Word, for example) screen and it takes forever for the
document to open. This just started happening on my
computer yesterday. How can I turn this off? It scans any
document that I want to open including documents that have
previously been scanned?

This is your antivirus software's doing. Check with their support.

Let me guess.... Are you running Norton Antivirus by any chance?
