My operating system is Windows XP.

I would like to "disable" -- not remove-- some programs. I see the option
to "change" or "remove/uninstall".

Thank you.

Exactly what programs are you talking about?
If it's TSR's then they should have options to "Run at Startup" that can be
disabled. Or they can be removed from the Startup folder. If it's standard
programs that you don't want to use but want installed "Just in case" then
deleting the shortcuts is an option. You can always recreate them later if
you needed to.

Could you be a little more precise on what it is you are trying to do. Are the programs loading at bootup and you don't want them to? Do you just want to be able to use the program and noone else? Programs don't start unless you start them or have them configured to automatic start. So "disable" doesn't really mean anything. Let us know. Good luck.

I downloaded Adobe Reader, Adobe Photoshop.
I have read in articles that when your computer runs sluggishly (on
occasion), then sometimes you can shut down some of the unneeded programs.

I felt that disabling the above two might be a help.
