How to disable new load to front?

When I have multiple programs open in Windows, can I disable the Automatic
Restore? (Not sure what to call it.)
For example, if I have Program A opening (but it is loading a webpage or
processing my login or just takes a long time to boot-up), and am meanwhile
working in Program B (fully-loaded and operational), right now when A is done
loading it decides to bring itself to the front, interrupting what I was
doing in Program B. This is very, very disruptive and I want to disable it.
Ideas? Suggestions?

You can only disable System Restore (as it is called) for good, for ever. It
is not possible to have it only disabled when running multiple programs.

Go to Start // Run // type "sysdm.cpl" and see the tab with system restore
information. Disabling means that there will be no more system restore
points made...

I misstated the question. I used the term "restore" to reference any window
or program on the taskbar being open and visible; meaning, as opposed to
minimized.

You didn't "misstate"at all, I could mostly deduce what you're on about :-)
....Mario Been simply didn't read your post carefully enough, ...usually me
that does that !

....how about minimizing a program that's underunderway, (so that it's
reduced down to its' button on the taskbar) and carry on in the "other"
program, or are you already doing that ?

You could investiage the "other" / 2nd, or "on top" program "options" or
"preferences" to see if there is an "Always on top" setting - that might
help.

Did you minimize program A or just let it run?

I believe that is the only way to accomplish what you want.

I've found Microsoft's TweakUI PowerToy to be helpful with this
problem. The program is available here.

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx

Direct Download of TweakUI
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...ertoySetup.exe

Once the program is installed, go to Start -> All Programs ->
Powertoys for Windows XP -> TweakUI.
Click on the + sign next to General.
Click on Focus.
In the right hand pane, make sure "Prevent applications from
stealing focus".
Click OK.

If you prefer not to install a program to help with this issue,
there's a script available from this web site which will make
the same changes in the registry as TweakUI does.

Good luck
