I have two copies of Windows XP. One is corrupted. How
do I remove it without disturbing the operable one? Can
I ignore it? Is its presence causing system lag or
wasting system resources?

The second one is using up hard drive space.

If boot.ini is correct and pointing to the usable installation then just
delete the bad one.
