Hi All!

Running Windows XP Pro SP1 with connected local printer Compaq LN-16
(Genicom microlaser 170).

I have found the latest drivers
(http://www.genicom.com/drivers/ml170-drv.htm) and installed these with
PCL5e drivers. The printer works fine, it is just that irritating "new
hardware wizard detecting my printer" message every time I start my
computer......

I know that the Plug and Play ID is not in sync and I read the article
Q298370 at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=298370 , but is there a way to
disable the detecting or a way to edit the registry to move these messages?

Thx Huub.

Try setting the LPT port to EPP in the BIOS.

Thx Cari, but I tried and succeed with installing the printer with Generic /
Text only drivers, then afterwards changing to the correct drivers and the
problem doesn't return.....

Huub.
