Hi there
I can't figure out how to deactivate the Fn key on the
keyboard and it's playing havoc with my typing, any clues?

Laptop? Try a docking station and "external" keyboard. Buy a different
laptop, to get a different key arrangement.

is this a Toshiba??? I have an old one, there is a dos utility to turn that
on or off.
