I want to install a hard drive as the second drive in my W2K Pro SP4
system and prevent the OS from makeing any "repairs" when it checks
the drive/partition(s) for errors. Can this be done? Thank you.

You could use chkntfs.exe in order to disable the autocheck of your second
drive, see this MS Knowledge Base article:

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=160963

Best regards

Bjorn;

Thank you. I looked at the article and it seems to have the information I
was looking for.

Another question, if I may?

I seem to recall that the assignment of drive letters starts with C: as the
primary on the first drive, D: as the primary on the second drive, E:, etc.
as the extended/logicals on the first drive, F:, etc. as the
extended/logicals on the second drive, all assuming that Logical Disk
Manager has *not* been used to alter any drive letters. (This is old bios
knowledge.) Can I assume the same for W2K? (The issue is that I need to
predict what drive letter is going to be assigned "a priori". You can
probably tell that I am trying to troubleshoot someone else's drive, and I
don't want W2K taking *any* action on the drive at startup.) Thank you.

Alex
