Does anyone have any suggestions on how to disable auto update for XP?
One day, my IE was updated into IE8, which is not what I want. Does anyone
have any suggestions on how to disable it?

Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com | select CUSTOM & scan | Uncheck
IE8 and "hide" it.

If you'd rather not disable 'Automatic Updates' - which might give you error
messages associated with doing that - follow up on disabling the IE8 update
only.

If I select notify me only for any update, will XP not auto update? and
update only if I select to do so. If it works, then this trick would work
for my case, does anyone have any suggestions?

Notify me but don't automatically download or install them

If you select this option, Windows recognizes when you are online and uses
your Internet connection to search for downloads from the Windows Update Web
site or from the Microsoft Update Web site. An Automatic Updates icon and
message appear in the notification area of your taskbar when new updates are
available to download or to install.

• Click the icon or message to view the updates. If you do not want to
