How to disable auto-capitalization of first letter in Outlook eMail writing?

When I write new eMails in Outlook then always the first letter on new lines
is automatically turned into a capital letter.

How can I turn this "feature" off?

Characters should be taken as I type them.

You are set to a 'style' of paragraph in the Format menu. Use the word wrap
and it won't bother you. You can use the insert menu to use 'break', 'text
wrapping break' if you want a specific wrap.

Depends entirely on your Outlook version and whether or not you use Word as
your mail editor. Apparently you thought including that information was
pointless.

Did you look in Tools Options Spelling?

Tools, Options, Spelling tab, Auto Correct, turn it off or change the Auto
Correct Options. If Word is your editor, see the instructions for auto
correct in Word's Help.

You seem to have cross posted to everywhere, excepting the correct group
which was Word
This Q has nothing to do with the o/s

By asking in a group with OE in the title? By noticing THIS group
lacks this?

Ask elsewhere

Sven,

There are several ways to work around this "feature".

As Mary suggested, assuming you are using Word as your e-mail editor, you
can turn this "feature" off. Open Word and go to Tools -> AutoCorrect
Options (note: this option may not appear unless/until the Tools menu is
fully displayed). In the AutoCorrect dialog, on the AutoCorrect tab, uncheck
"Capitalize first letter of sentences".

You could also disable the option to use Word as your e-mail editor.
Assuming you are using Outlook 2003, open the Outlook Tools menu, choose
Options and on the Mail Format tab, uncheck the options to use Word to
edit/read e-mail messages.

Lastly, you can "undo" this autocorrection as soon as it occurs. When the
autocorrection takes place, immediately press CTRL+Z or go to Edit -> Undo
AutoCorrect. This may be the best work around if you generally want the
first word of each sentence capitalized, but there are a few cases where you
don't want this.

HTH,

Ron

Sven,

Please ignore "DL" and "PaulMaudib". They don't know what they are talking
about.

Ronald Nissley has the best suggestion. Since the feature has its benefits,
it is better to leave it alone and just use Ctrl-Z when the character is
automatically capitalized.

A lot of people who do not Explore Outlook's features can readily assume
that the feature you refer to is not a part of Outlook. However, it has been
present a long time and a great annoyance to me until I learned Ctrl-Z will
undo the capitalization.

When you tap the [Return] key, the program thinks you are starting a new
sentence and new sentences start with a capital letter.

To suppress this action, don't tap the [Return] key, tape the combination
[Shift-Return] instead.
