When I came to install the latest version of defender I was instructed to
uninstall previous version. This was done but it left me with files still
on my system. I then deleted these files by hand but was left with one file
"MpShHook.dll". I am unable to get rid of this file thus I am unable to
install the latest version. I am unable to find the original so that I can
reinstall. I would be grateful if someone can point me in the right
direction to find the original or how I can force a deletion of the said
file

TIA

rafair

Thank you Engel

Read through the post and checked with HDCleaner I found the file but it
denied me access to delete it. I checked the install file and that is
uptodate.

This is the only file remaining from the original programme and yet it still
will not delete.

I am unable to locate the original defender programme as it is nolonger
supported, so I am unable to install and then hopfully uninstall the
programme

Hi Rafair,

See here for old Beta 2
From http://www.filehippo.com Beta 1, or Beta 2
http://www.filehippo.com/download/88...5a33/download/

http://www.filehippo.com/download_mi...tispyware/?561
I think it is pretty risky getting a Microsoft file except directly from the
source--but in an emergency....

Hi Rafair,

This file is probably locked by explorer.exe - please reboot and the lock
should be released. In fact, the file should just be gone after reboot, but
if it is not, the lock certainly should be.

Regards,
Joe

Hi

Thank you all for your help at last I have got rid of that file.

I have had this problem for a number of weeks now Joe so I have rebooted
but problem still remained.

Engel I did a safe boot and then I was able to delete the file.

Plun thanks for the usl for the unlocker I have d/l it.

I don`t think I`ll install defender after all this.

As this is my first posting to these news pages I am very impressed with the
help given and will use them in the future instead of wsasting weeks trying
to fathom things out.

Regards

Rafair

Do you run any other "protective" software? Spybot Search & Destroy, or the
paid version of Ad-Aware? Or some other software intended to help prevent
damage to your system from malware of various kinds?
