DirextX problems

Does anyone have any tips on repairing my DirectX install? I have read that
it is not a good idea to uninstall and have not found DirectX.exe on my XP
Pro install disk. I have installed various versions that have not resulted
in fixing the missing dlls that are reported. I have seen countless adds for
SW that are a fix but I hesitate to purchase cure all software without a
recommendation. I get occasional crashes on applications that refer to
directX in Event Viewer. "faulting module d3dx9_28 dl, version 9.10.455.0"
Dxdiag says the file is an older version which will run slower than the
retail version. I should reinstall DirectX to the latest version.

Thanks to anyone that can point me to a site that has a current install
that will fix my problems.

J.

Have you downloaded and installed the latest DirectX redist version?

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

(about 64 MB). It ought to update all DirectX components.

HTH.

Return address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.

I have installed this and it reports that it is not the retail version and
runs slower. I have read so many posts (Google) but they are all old and
wonder if there are any newer issues and cures.

Thanks for the quick reply.
