I downloaded the DirectX web installer from Microsoft and ran it but
an error occurred saying it was unable to access the internet. An hour
of troubleshooting later I found that it was not my computer nor my
ISP but the dxwebsetup.exe file. Using an old copy I had from the
August 2008 update worked fine. So if the same happens to you try
an older copy.

I got my older copy from the August 2008 update. You always keep backups too, right?

Here is my copy, it's available until November 18, 2008.
