I have a windows XP with SP3 machine. Three questions:

1) Can I upgrade to DirectX 10?
2) If so do I get this from MS or other source? I believe that the MS support site indicates that it only supports Nvidia and ATI (I think).
3) Do I need a specific graphics card(s)? I am currently using the built-in VIA/S3G Unichrome card, but have no problem buying a new on if need be.

Thanks for any guidance and advice.

You need Vista or Windows 7 to run DirectX10.
