I think I screwed up and possibly deleted files that FP needs. I was having
navigation problems and it seemed like old pages were loading instead of new
ones, so I went in and deleted what I thought were old files from the website
folder in my Network Places folder. I then tried to publish my site. When I
then went to the site, I got a message that reads: "Directory Listing Denied.
This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed."

Now no one can get to my site. What do I need to do?

Publish a default page to the site. Your provider can tell you what
that needs to be called.

I don't understand how this will help me? Yes, it could give me a temporary
page for site visitors, but what I need to know is what happened to cause
this and how can I reverse it? Do I need to re-install FP?

No you don't need to reinstall FP
You need to stop deleting your home page file - which is what did it
